London, 23rd March: Canonical today announced the addition of Darwinia and Uplink, games by renowned publisher Introversion to the Ubuntu Software Center. Users can buy, download, install these games in just a few clicks and for the first 30 days, the games can be bought from the Ubuntu Software Centre for the special price of $9.99 US, reduced from $12. These titles extend the applications that Ubuntu users can enjoy, allowing them to play great games on their preferred platform.
Darwinia won the Seamus McNally Grand Prize, Technical Excellence, and Innovation in Visual Art awards at the Independent Games Festival. Uplink is considered a classic game, concerned with simulated computer hacking and a firm favourite with Linux users who will welcome its availability on the leading Linux desktop platform.
Ubuntu Software Centre gives Ubuntu users access to thousands of applications both free and paid. A purchasing capability was recently added giving users access to yet more titles across a wider range of genres. The purchasing process is completely secure and integrated in the Ubuntu identity management system. In effect it offers a fully enabled applications store for Ubuntu users.
“Bringing new games and applications to Ubuntu through the Software Center is a fantastic development for our users” says Steve George, VP of Business Development, Canonical. “Introversion has consistently supported Linux, and now their classic titles are available to users easily and quickly. Games like Darwinia and Uplink, and those that follow, make Ubuntu a richer, more fun place for millions of Ubuntu users”
Mark Morris, Managing Director at Introversion Software comments; “This relationship is important for us because Ubuntu is opening the doors for our games to be distributed more widely reaching new audiences. We hope this will be the first wave of games from Introversion that Ubuntu users see through the Ubuntu Software Centre.”
Availability
Ubuntu users can search for the game in the Ubuntu Software Centre. Payment and installation is a 2-click process for registered users. It’s that simple.

Darwinia is that virtual themepark location game right? It looks promising I hope people get hooked up by it.
The official website (http://www.introversion.co.uk/darwinia/) says:
"The world of Darwinia is a virtual themepark, running entirely inside a computer network and populated by a sentient evolving life form called the Darwinians. Unfortunately Darwinia has been overrun by a computer virus which has multiplied out of control. Your task is to destroy the Viral Infection and save the Darwinians from extinction."
Sounds fun!
