Indie Puzzler, A Virus Named TOM, Integrated into Steam

Posted by Dave Seaman on Friday, 11 May 2012

Indie game developer Misfits Attic is on the cusp of releasing A Virus Named TOM, their infectious coop/competitive action-puzzler, and they’ve now integrated the Steam client into the game including the leaderboard, but they need the gaming public’s help to populate the built-in boards with their highest scores! Gamers who pre-order the game at the official site (www.aVirusNamedTom.com) will have access to download the Steam beta version, and the opportunity to have their names permanently baked into the game’s leaderboard on certain levels. The title is also available for pre-order and download on the digital distribution service Desura http://www.desura.com/games/a-virus-named-tom.

To help celebrate this news, the team has just released a new Beta Update video which offers a cool look at the game creation from the perspective of a small indie team deep in the process: integrating Steam, adding more visual flourish and UI changes, and dealing with a hungry baby (it’ll make sense when you see it).

A Virus Named Tom is an action puzzler in which players rearrange circuits to spread a virus (whose name is Tom, but you probably already figured that out) while dodging anti-virus drones. It's one of the few puzzle games out there where you can play co-operatively with up to 3 friends as well as including a battle mode where you can take on your friends for virus supremacy.

Misfits Attic is a part of GameSpy Technology's Indie Open House program, an indie incubator and residency program that leverages GameSpy Technology's resources to provide free office space, technology, peer support, and consultation to help indie dev teams design, craft, and execute their inspired game ideas. Six development teams are currently in the middle of their six month residency working in GameSpy Technology/IGN Entertainment's San Francisco office: Primer Labs, Team2Bit, Cryptic Sea, Interabang Entertainment, Misfits Attic and Wolfire.

In addition to Desura and Steam, the game will be available through OnLive. For more information on A Virus Named Tom, check out the official site:
