HENDERSON, Nev. (January 31, 2014) — Independent and international game developer Landauer Games announced today that the popular science fiction indie MMO, Star Sonata 2 has begun to accept bitcoins as a form of payment for premium services and subscriptions. Star Sonata 2 offers over 80 percent of the game for free, with only the last 20 percent of the game requiring the premium subscription.
Bitcoin is a newly emerging digital currency that allows for payments between individuals across the globe. Throughout Star Sonata’s almost ten years of development, requests have been made to accept local forms of currency. “Over 50 percent of our players are located outside of the United States, and thanks to Bitcoin, all players to be able to play Star Sonata regardless of where they live,” stated Jeff Landauer, owner and project lead of Star Sonata 2.
Star Sonata 2 was also one of the first games to be posted to the popular Steam Greenlight service. “If people like what they see, but don’t want to pay to play, they’re encouraged to help support Star Sonata 2 by voting for the game on our Greenlight Page,” says Marty Baxter, Star Sonata’s community manager. Star Sonata 2 is under constant development and will be releasing a free massive update in February 2014, and celebrating its tenth anniversary at the end of 2014.
