Utrecht, Netherlands - Dutch Independent Game Studio Vlambeer today is pleased to announce that a freeware Mac version of their debut title, Super Crate Box, will be available for download starting this weekend. The game aims to bring back the glory days of arcade gaming in the form of a hectic platform shooter.

“We hoped that the game would do well but we didn’t really see it coming that 1.1 million crates would’ve been collected worldwide in just the first month after release.", says Rami of Vlambeer. "The amount of requests for the Mac version were overwhelming, so we got to it. It took a bit more work than anticipated to bring the game to Mac, but we’re glad to bring some arcade love to the platform.”

Minecraft creator Notch remarked that the game was ‘simple but brilliant’ and Team Meat of Super Meat Boy mentioned the game to be ‘awesome’. Rock, Paper, Shotgun said that the game is like “condensed milk, only with fun instead of milk”.

In Super Crate Box, players aim to collect crates while endless hordes of enemies spawn from the top of the screen. By collecting crates, players earn points and are assigned a random weapon that can be used to dispose of the enemies. The game boasts a pixel art-style and a chiptune soundtrack. Super Crate Box will be available for free, starting this weekend.
