2017 Nordic Game Awards winners announced

Malmö, Sweden – 18 May 2017. The winners of the 2017 Nordic Game Awards have been revealed at this year’s Nordic Game Conference with 2D platform puzzler INSIDE taking home four awards. Hosted by comedian Niels Forsberg, 20 games were nominated in eight different categories, including Best Art, Best Game Design, Best Debut, and Nordic Game of the Year.

Category winners of the 2017 Nordic Game Awards are as follows:

Nordic Game of the Year

INSIDE by Playdead

Other finalists included Battlefield 1 (EA DICE), Clash Royale (Supercell), Hitman (IO Interactive), Owlboy (D-Pad Studio), and Tom Clancy’s The Division (Massive Entertainment).

Nordic Game of the Year – Small Screen

Twofold Inc. developed by Grapefrukt Games

Other finalists included Clapper (Bridgeside Interactive), Clash Royale (Supercell), Mekorama (Martin Magni), and Space Marshals 2 (Pixelbite Games).

Best Art

INSIDE, by Playdead

Other finalists included Battlefield 1 (EA DICE), GoNNER (Art in Heart), Owlboy (D-Pad Studio), and Unravel (Coldwood Interactive).

Best Game Design

INSIDE by Playdead.

Other finalists included Battlefield 1 (EA DICE), Hitman (IO Interactive), Owlboy (D-Pad Studio), and Tom Clancy’s The Division (Massive Entertainment).

Best Technology

Hitman by IO Interactive

Other finalists included Battlefield 1 (EA DICE), EVE Valkyrie (CCP), INSIDE (Playdead), and Tom Clancy’s The Division (Massive Entertainment).  

Best Audio

INSIDE by Playdead

Other finalists included Battlefield 1 (EA DICE), GoNNER (Art in Heart), Hitman (IO Interactive), and Owlboy (D-Pad Studio).

Best Fun for Everyone

The Fun for Everyone award is a special award for the best children’s, family, or social game, suitable for people of all ages.

Clapper by Bridgeside Interactive.

Other finalists included Fuzzy House (Fuzzy House), Mussila: Musical Monster Adventure (Rosamosi), Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure (Game Swing), and Toca Hair Salon 3 (Toca Boca).

Best Debut

Best Debut is brand new award given to a Nordic studio that has released its first game in 2017 (excluding beta and early access).

Other nominees for the first ever Best Debut award included Clapper (Bridgeside Interactive), Manual Samuel (Perfectly Paranormal), Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure (Game Swing), and Through the Woods (Antagonist).

Special Mention

The jury also gave Owlboy, developed by D-Pad Studio, a special mention for outstanding artistic, audio, technological, and design quality.

About the Nordic Game Awards
The Nordic Game Awards is organised by the Nordic Game Institute in cooperation with Nordic Game Resources and the Nordic Game event team.

The Nordic Game Institute consists of the following game producer associations in the region: Dataspelsbranschen (SE), Icelandic Gaming Industry (IS), Neogames (FI), Spillprodusentforeningen (NO) and Producentforeningen (DK).

The organisers appoint the NGA jury, this year with the following members: Bjarki Thor Jónsson (Iceland), Juho Kuorikoski (Finland), Rune Fjell Olsen (Norway), Niklas Sintorn (Sweden) and Astrid Mie Refstrup (Denmark).
