Runes: The Forgotten Path Kickstarter begins! An epic VR adventure for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

Trieste, Italy - April 27, 2017 – The Kickstarter campaign for Runes: The Forgotten Path has launched today seeking a goal of 30.000 € to complete development and bring this magic-infused Virtual Reality adventure to PC (HTC Vive and Oculus Rift).

Runes aims to captivate your senses by immersing you in a vibrant and consistent world, where you will master the art of spellcasting by drawing rune shapes in the air with your hands to solve puzzles and fight enemies. The game is set in a mystical world ruled by the Panopticon: an order of powerful wizards that regulate the use of magic oppressing people and confining their opponents to the Oblivion. In this magical prison of the mind, you will start your adventure as Leth, a renegade wizard determined to regain his freedom while seeking for his lost memories.

“Our Kickstarter is finally live with a demo for everyone to download that will allow people to enjoy the magic of Runes before they pledge on our Kickstarter." Said Alejandro Castedo of Stormbon Studio, "In Runes we implemented an innovative locomotion system called 4th Wall to provide a seamless experience devoid of motion sickness. We really hope that this will change somewhat the way people experience the immense potential of Virtual Reality."

Game features include:
  • 100% designed for room scale VR.
  • Full story driven VR title with different environments and puzzle solving.
  • Photogrammetry for full deep and immersive worlds. New seamless locomotion system.
  • Nodding system: answer to yes or no questions just by moving your head.

About Stormborn Studio
Stormborn Studio was unofficially established in 2014 by a small group of hardcore gamers excited about the challenges and possibilities that Virtual Reality had brought to the scene. After some fruitful collaborations with local and national businesses, they decided to set up a game company in 2016 and go back to the project that brought them together in the first place: a fantasy action-adventure video game capable of exploiting all the new major VR technologies.

Nadia was Here turns retro battle systems on its head into something new, available soon

After more than 5 years of hard work on this project, indie developer Joel Aspen is thrilled to announce that his game "Nadia was Here" will be available on Steam on 26th May 2017!

He developed it mainly out of a love for retro JRPGs, but also with a view to adding modern gaming features along with the nostalgic vibes.  There are a lot of twists on standard genre conventions and he's most proud of creating a unique battle system.  In fact he's so pleased with this system that he's released a demo specifically to show it off, available here.

Game features:

  • Fast-paced battles: Mixing elements from time-management games and classic turn-based goodness for a truly unique real time experience.
  • Develop your characters in a new way: Growing through learning new skills instead of leveling up. Eliminating the need for random battles and grinding.
  • Keep collecting: Gain new skills and become stronger during battles. Collect and upgrade powerful amulets
  • Engaging story development: slowly get to know the main characters, and grow to adore, love and hate them.
  • Explore Amytah: Discover its many secrets and crack your brain on puzzle-centric dungeons.

VR Puzzler Symphony of the Machine Launches on PSVR, Vive

PERTH, AUSTRALIA - April 25, 2017 - Symphony of the Machine, a VR puzzle game where players revitalize a post-apocalyptic world by influencing the weather with a mysterious tower, is now available for PlayStation VR and HTC Vive in North America. It will launch across Europe and Oceania on April 26 and in Asia on April 27.

Set in a desolate landscape ravaged by an unknown catastrophe, Symphony of the Machine is centered around the scattered remnants of a lost civilization and an enigmatic tower. There, at the spire's summit, awaits a series of tranquil puzzles that players can solve utilizing intuitive motion controls by bending, splitting or filtering light emanating from the arcane device.

This light can be redirected to symbols in the surrounding area which allow the player to summon the elements. Only with the correct mixture of precipitation, sunlight, wind and other effects can fauna atop the tower and the planet as a whole be restored and spring to life once more.

Symphony of the Machine provides an environment of discovery where players are unburdened by exposition and traditional cinematic storytelling. Without heavy-handed narrative dictating the experience, players can freely explore Story Mode, learning what happened to this world and how to fix it, or enter Sandbox Mode, where players are free to construct and expand upon their will, shaping and discovering new features and content long after the initial story has concluded.

"Symphony of the Machine provides a soothing atmosphere to encourage discovery, creativity and experimentation," said Vee Pendergrast, managing director, Stirfire Studios. "Players are free to set their own pace when uncovering the mystery behind the apocalyptic catastrophe and how to reverse the disastrous effects it's had on the environment."

Symphony of the Machine supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese. The game is priced at $19.99 USD and €19.99.

Julia's Canadian Mystery EGA text parser mystery game

Julia's Canadian Mystery is inspired by Sierra On-line's "The Colonel's Bequest", an EGA text parser adventure game of mystery and intrigue set in Northern Ontario, Canada - being made as a real labour of love by the looks of it, using AGS (Adventure Game Studio).

The year is 1913. You are a clerk working at the Royal Ontario Museum and your boss wants the mineralogy exhibit to be the talk of the town when the museum opens the following year. So when a fisherman finds a huge diamond in the belly of a fish, the Professor sends you up north to investigate! This could be your big chance to prove to everyone you have what it takes...

This is pretty hardcore retro, if you're a fan of the old Sierra games it should be right up your street. Here are a few screenshots and a (rather long) intro:

Nordic Game Awards 2017 – Nominees revealed

A highlight of the annual Nordic Game conference, this year's edition of the Nordic Game Awards takes place in the Unreal Theatre, the main auditorium of Slagthuset, on Thursday, 18 May at 18:00.

Here are the games nominated for the 2017 Nordic Game Awards

Nordic Game of the Year – Small Screen
Nordic studios make great games in all formats, and mobile platforms in particular have seen many stellar Nordic titles. Some of the latest standouts have been nominated for the “Nordic GotY – Small Screen” award, including Supercell’s smash hit “Clash Royale”.

Clapper”, Bridgeside Interactive (SE)
Clash Royale”, Supercell (FI)
Mekorama”, Martin Magni (SE)
Space Marshals 2”, Pixelbite Games (SE)
Twofold Inc.”, Grapefrukt Games (SE)

Nordic Game of the Year
Nordic GotY – the most prestigious award of the show and highpoint of the 2017 Nordic Game Awards. A fun fact is that all of the nominated studios have previously taken the stage at Nordic Game. This year, Playdead opens NG17 with an “insider” tech talk about their multiple award-winning title “INSIDE” (here), veteran hit-maker IO Interactive will delve into the AI of “Hitman” (here), Massive Entertainment CEO David Polfeldt joins legendary Japanese game designer Fumito Ueda in a much anticipated “fireside chat” (here), while both EA DICE and “Owlboy” creator Jo-Remi Madsen have spoken at past Nordic Game conferences.

Battlefield 1”, EA DICE (SE)
Clash Royale”, Supercell (FI)
Hitman”, IO Interactive (DK)
INSIDE”, Playdead (DK)
Owlboy”, D-Pad Studio (NO)
Tom Clancy’s The Division”, Massive Entertainment (SE)

Best Audio nominees
As with all the categories, the competition here is fierce. The “Battlefield” series is well-known for its striking audio, and the latest chapter is no exception, being nominated for several awards already. This is also the case for Playdead and their award-winning title “INSIDE” - and with three other very strong contenders, it's looking like a tough decision for the jury:

Battlefield 1”, EA DICE (SE)
GoNNER”, Art in Heart (SE)
Hitman”, IO Interactive (DK)
INSIDE”, Playdead (DK)
Owlboy”, D-Pad Studio (NO)

Best Fun for Everyone nominees
A special award for the best children’s, family, social or casual game that's suitable (and enjoyable) for a wide range of people and ages. The headliners in this category include “Clapper”, which took the "Indie Sensation Award” at NG16, as well as the latest “Salon” release from veterans at Toca Boca and the crazy sports game “Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure”:
Clapper”, Bridgeside Interactive (SE)
Fuzzy House”, Fuzzy House (DK)
Mussila: Musical Monster Adventure”, Rosamosi (IS)
Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure”, Game Swing (DK)
Toca Hair Salon 3”, Toca Boca (SE)

Best Debut nominees
The "Best Debut" award goes to a Nordic studio that has released its first game in 2016, not counting beta or early access. Five very talented and promising studios are competing in this category, among them Antagonist with “Through the Woods”, a chilling third-person psychological horror game set in a forest on Norway's western coast.

Clapper”, Bridgeside Interactive (SE)
GoNNER”, Art in Heart (SE)
Manual Samuel”, Perfectly Paranormal (NO)
Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure”, Game Swing (DK)
Through the Woods”, Antagonist (NO)

Best Technology nominees
Nordic games are famous for many reasons, not least for their high-tech polish. Just look at some of the titles in the running for this year's "Best Technology" award: breath-taking VR design in “EVE Valkyrie”, multiplayer innovation in “Tom Clancy’s The Division” and ground-breaking AI programming in “Hitman”. Every nominated game has a very good reason to be here.

Battlefield 1”, EA DICE (SE)
EVE Valkyrie”, CCP (IS)
Hitman”, IO Interactive (DK)
INSIDE”, Playdead (DK)
Tom Clancy’s The Division”, Massive Entertainment (SE)

Best Game Design nominees
The nominees for “Best Game Design” include five of the past year’s most successful and critically acclaimed Nordic games. Competing with the four AAA heavy hitters on the list is “Owlboy”, a slick homage to old-school 2D adventures that took Norwegian developer D-Pad Studio eight years to complete.

Battlefield 1”, EA DICE (SE)
Hitman”, IO Interactive (DK)
INSIDE”, Playdead (DK)
Owlboy”, D-Pad Studio (NO)
Tom Clancy’s The Division”, Massive Entertainment (SE)

Best Art nominees
Games in this category are nominated for their high level of artistic achievement. Headliners this year are “Battlefield 1” and “INSIDE”, but look out for the “dark horses” – not least of all the beautiful, “yarn-made” art of “Unravel”.

Battlefield 1”, EA DICE (SE)
GoNNER”, Art in Heart (SE)
INSIDE”, Playdead (DK)
Owlboy”, D-Pad Studio (NO)
Unravel”, Coldwood Interactive (SE)

Congratulations to all the nominees for the 2017 Nordic Game Awards. See you at the show!
