Announcing A Diversity Game Project - Tell the World your Story

I'm not really sure how this will work as an actual game, but it's certainly a fascinating idea!

New Diversity Game Project needs you! Won't you please fill out the questionnaire here to be a part of this groundbreaking new concept of a game?

Tell the world your story

Skipton, North Yorkshire, UK (26th January 2017)

Viperante is proud to announce the launch of "A Diversity Game Project", a unique and important new game project, and is inviting you to be a part of it.

Background to the Game

If ever there was a time for unity, for solidarity, for us to come together as people, then that time is now. We live in a world of fear and uncertainty, in the middle of a culture war, battling over whose ideas are right, and whose are wrong, with all sides quick to judge, label, and attack those they disagree with. There are many issues that divide us. And in all the fighting, the real truth of a person is often overlooked, or never even considered at all. How well do we really know each other? Are those we disagree with really the terrible people we seem to always want them to be? Or do they simply have a different perspective, for a different reason? Could just taking the time to learn more about each other, create a better world for us all?

The Game

"A Diversity Game Project" will be a simple point and click adventure style game that aims to present a truly diverse set of people to the world, in a way that will force players to ask: "How much time am I really willing to devote to finding out about the lives and experiences of other people?" It won't have a story to uncover. Rather, YOUR stories will be the stories to uncover. Who are you? What do you do? Where are you from? What are the things that make you, you? Your answers to these questions will become the main component of the game, and seeking them out, the main challenge. This is a chance to immortalise a small piece of yourself forever, and a chance for everyone else, to find it. This will not be a game about politics. This will not be a game about taking sides. This will be a game about transcending those things. This will be a game about achieving a deeper understanding of others, and in doing so, achieving a deeper understanding of yourself.

If you would like to contribute your story to this project, and be part of something innovative, important and positive, then please visit to find out how.

"A Diversity Game Project" was conceived, and is being made, by Viperante, a UK based games developer headquartered in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales in the north of England. Founded in 2003 by writer and graphic designer Daniel Lee Peach, it is complemented by highly skilled third party support located throughout the world, and is dedicated to bringing creative, imaginative, and unique products to the market.

First-Person Space Survival Multiplayer Experience Hellion Set to Colonize Steam Early Access on February 24th

Indie developer Zero Gravity today announced that the countdown for their debut title Hellion has begun, the PC first-person multiplayer space survival game, will enter Steam Early Access on 24th February. Hellion’s open world space survival game pits players against the perils of desolate wastelands in the devastated paradise of the first interstellar colony of humankind. Waking up after a life long journey in a cryopod, players set out on a journey exploring Hellion's derelict spaceships and ruined outposts, striking a balance between survival and the attempt to uncover what happened to the man-made paradise-turned-into-graveyard of humanity's hopes.

“We are happy to announce that Hellion will be coming to Steam Early Access this February”, said Marko Smiljanic, Creative Director at Zero Gravity. “This first phase of development allows us to gather feedback from our players so that we can implement the most desired features in the final release and turn Hellion into the ultimate first-person open world experience with realistic player communication, full Newtonian physics and immersive storyline”.

The Hellion Early Access build will offer hand-crafted content with procedurally generated elements that will create a meaningful narrative as well as make the gameplay varied and replayable beyond player interaction. In order to survive, colonists will have to loot and fight for limited life support resources, such as oxygen and food, as well as repair and fuel their deteriorating base station and spaceship. Cooperation with other players, at least temporarily, will be unavoidable in order to run bigger ships and survive in the hostile environment. However, in the Hellion galaxy it’s every man for himself, so betrayal sometimes is the best strategy in surviving the adversities of space and conquering the galaxy.

For this unique multiplayer experience the Zero Gravity team plan to introduce a series of features, including a complex resource gathering system, a detailed crafting system, unique damage and degradation models for systems and equipment, complex maintenance systems for ships, stations and equipment - all of which are fully modular and customizable - and an immersive background story that needs to be explored in order to reveal the truth behind the devastation of Hellion.

Hellion will be available on Steam Early Access on February 24th. For more information, please visit the Hellion Steam Page or the official website.

Dark Shores: Made by a one-man development team

One-man indiedev LABS Games is working on Dark Shores, a game he's been working on for over two years.

A luxury cruise containing five young tourists crashes on a remote island, deep within the South Pacific. As the tourists struggle to survive on the island, they soon realize that keeping themselves fed and sheltered is the least of their worries. There’s something else on this island. Hunting them.

Permanent death
The main goal of this game was to 'fix' one of the glaring issues the developer felt affected most horror games. The horror is only good once. Respawing at a checkpoint removes all consequence and tension from the game. In Dark Shores, when you die as one character, he/she stays dead. Instead of reloading a previous save, you take the reigns of another survivor. Permadeath makes sure the scares are truly scary. You are fighting for your life, after all.

Branching narrative
When any character can be snuffed out and removed from the game at any time, the narrative can change and shift. This makes for a branching storyline, where the outcome is entirely dependent on who lives, and who dies.

Unscripted fear
ILABS Games focused on an un-scripted enemy in an attempt to create fear that isn’t linear. Once the player becomes aware of the scripted nature planned jump scares, the metaphorical curtain is pulled back, and horror games can lose their impact. To avoid being just a simple haunted house, a level of unpredictability has been added.

RPG Fantasy Adventure Narborion Saga Coming To Steam in March

Budapest, Hungary, January 24th 2017 – Indie developer Liber Primus Games today announced that its RPG fantasy adventure, Narborion Saga is coming to Steam for PC in March. The PC version will provide an entirely new interpretation of the game totally unique to the PC platform having previously been released on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, iTouch as well as Amazon Kindle and Android on Google Play in December 2014.
Narborian Saga is an epic fantasy story written by Dr Tom Pollak, a professional novelist and former editor of Dragon, the popular Dungeon’s and Dragon’s role playing game magazine. Narborion Saga aims to immerse players into the world of an elaborate RPG fantasy through three major quests set within the same narrative. Players will command the fate of the story’s hero through dynamic non-linear storytelling and rogue-like dungeon exploration. The tale begins with a quest to find and rebuild the chapel of a long-forgotten Goddess and defeat the Master Vampire, Lord Malbor, agent of the God of Death and Magic. The second quest, The God of Orcs, players will need to delve deep into the forces of darkness to uncover a conspiracy of leadership with the mysterious new god of orcs. The third quest, The Swamp of a Thousand Paths tests players even further in an adventure to the Coastless Lake to destroy an ancient Wyrm in search of important artifacts.
“We’re excited to have successfully greenlit Narborion Saga on Steam to a PC audience,” said writer Dr Tom Pollak. “PC allows us to bring an entirely unique version of the series with dynamic rogue-like elements into the narrative to reach a whole new audience of fans”.
The PC version of Narborion Saga for Steam combines three main RPG quests and aims to double the amount of different weapons and armour available to players.Player Vs Player combat through duelling and the ability to learn spells will provide players with the opportunity to develop character abilities. The game will receive an entirely new visual look and chapters will no longer appear one after the other, like in a traditional gamebook, but are broken into small episodes and placed as locations on the game map.
Also unique to the PC version will be Map-based movement: to reach these episodes, players move their character on an overland map and several smaller maps (city maps, swamp, map of the dark forest). Whenever there’s something to do or discover, characters leave the map and enter a gamebook-styled narrative section.

Also as part of the visual upgrade in the move to PC the battle screen no longer looks like the empty tactical grid like it did before, trees, bushes, columns, campfires now embellish the battlefield, these elements, however, can also block the line-of-sight of archers, so movement is more important than ever.
Further details of the PC version will be revealed in February ahead of its launch in late March.

Bear With Me Ep. 2 Launches Feb. 15 on PC, Mac, Linux

ZAGREB, Croatia - Jan. 19, 2017 - Bear With Me, a noire-themed point-and-click adventure from Exordium Games, will continue the story of 10-year-old Amber and her teddy bear detective companion, Ted E. Bear, when Episode 2 releases for PC, Mac and Linux on Feb. 15, 2017.
At the end of the first episode, the search for Amber's missing brother led the duo to a black-and-white metropolis inhabited by Amber's other toys, who moonlight as the hard-nosed underbelly of Paper City. The elusive Red Man, suspected as the cause of sprawling fires, still serves as an omnipresent menace in Episode 2.

Their search will cross paths with a new roster of allies and suspects including CBG, a former detective who now believes surveillance cameras are strapped to the seagulls throughout Paper City. If it's true, they've likely filmed the nefarious deeds of the Reef King, crime lord and operator of Westpaw Casino. He isn't the only menace Paper City residents fear; Tigren, a local voodoo queen, has a staggering reputation of her own.

Amber and Ted E. Bear's search for clues will lead them through twice as many scenes as Episode 1, showcasing locations such as an industrial stretch of docks complete with a diner, the bustling Westpaw Casino, and the heart of Tigren's Den.
Bear With Me features a narrative inspired by classic detective films and child-like imagination, coupled with dynamic storytelling and choices that affect the player's progress. The game balances its serious mysteries with sharp wit, cutting one-liners and puns that reference pop culture shared across movies and games.
Episode 2 will be available for $4.99 on Steam and the Humble Store with full English voiceover along with French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian subtitles.
"Players will witness extensive development of Amber and Ted's relationship in Episode 2, including the underlying strain between them, as they encounter fresh puzzles and new mysteries," said Andrej Kovacevic, game director, Exordium Games. "The sharp-tongued leads exchange their signature cutting humor as they face darker subject matter than the first episode while advancing classic detective-themed storytelling."

The Sun and Moon coming to Xbox One January 27

Digerati is thrilled to announce the Ludum Dare 29 winning game, The Sun and Moon, developed by Daniel Linssen, will be available on Xbox One from January 27th, priced $6.99/€6.99/£5.59. The game is available to pre-order now from the Xbox Store with a 10% discount.

About the game
The Sun and Moon, the winner of the 29th Ludum Dare game jam, is a platformer with a unique mechanic: you can dive into the ground. Momentum is conserved but gravity is reversed, letting you fling yourself high into the air or deep beneath the surface. The goal is always straightforward - collect the three orbs in the level and jump into the wormhole - but spikes, endless drops and impossible heights make this more and more difficult.

The Sun and Moon's creator, Daniel Linssen, recently celebrated winning Ludum Dare for a second time, with his online chatroom platformer, Walkie Talkie.

Key Features

  • Dive into the ground - This unique mechanic preserves your momentum, letting you use the level itself to overcome a huge range of challenges.
  • Conquer over 150 levels - Run, jump and dive your way through levels spanning from easy to brutally difficult. You'll need to both master the controls as well as think outside the box.
  • Non-linear level unlock system - Explore the game in whatever order best suits you.
  • Achieve time goals - Three tiers of medals provide an additional challenge for even the easiest levels
  • Minimalistic graphics - Straight-to-the-point graphics help you focus on the gameplay.

Semispheres Set For Release on Sony PlayStation 4 and PC this February

Calgary, Canada - January 17th, 2017 - Independent developer Vivid Helix today announced that Semispheres will launch on Sony PlayStation 4 and for PC on Steam this February. Semispheres is a beautiful, 2D puzzle game with a gorgeous, synth-led soundtrack by Sid Barnhoorn, composer of Antichamber and The Stanley Parable, that places dual realities at the heart of its challenge. Featuring a bichromatic art style comprised of warm blues and oranges, it’s a game that seeks to reunite two parallel worlds.

"Semispheres was initially conceived in August 2014 at the Ludum Dare 30 game jam, around the theme of connected worlds. The first prototype already contained the idea of overlapping realities, but constrained each character to their own world", said Radu Muresan, designer of Semispheres. "While that early version of the game was fun, it wasn’t until I introduced ideas like portals, side-swapping and teleports that opened up the possibility space, offering new depth and scope to the puzzles."

In Semispheres, each analogue stick controls a different avatar in environments that might initially appear identical but reveal profound differences crucial to progression. Portals allow the avatars to enter each other's reality, creating fiendishly complex inter-dimensional puzzles, with success reliant on methodical planning and skilful execution. It’s not all esoteric brain workouts, though. Tension is introduced through the sentries that guard these worlds, whose fields of vision you must evade in order to find safe passage and the eventual resynchronisation of the worlds.

Never less than a joy to spend time with, Semispheres’ synaptical environments soothe and challenge in equal measure, leaving you to ponder its parallel puzzles long after you’ve left the game world. Semispheres will launch on PC via Steam and for PlayStation 4 on the PlayStation Store in February 2017. Additional platform releases will follow in 2017.

Candleman: Puzzle Platformer Coming Soon to Xbox One

BEIJING — January 4, 2017 — What can you accomplish with only 10 seconds of light? Candleman, developed by Spotlightor Interactive in association with E-Home Entertainment, will challenge players to guide a vulnerable candle on a perilous adventure through dark and shadowy environments. Set for release in early 2017 exclusively on Xbox One, Candleman must find his way through enchanted worlds on a tightrope between light and dark with only one luxury - 10 seconds of candlelight, to be used sparingly in each in-game level.

Watch Candleman light his way through the darkness in this teaser trailer:

Starting each in-game level, players will have 10 brief seconds of candlelight to use to illuminate their path. Avoid treacherous chasms while guiding Candleman through haunted hallways, enchanted forests and moonlit ponds in search of the distant light. As players use their precious light, their candle protagonist will melt - losing wax but gaining a stronger ability to jump.

Candleman originated as an entry into the Ludum Dare game jam competition by Spotlightor co-founder and game creator Gao Ming, with the theme “10 seconds of light.” Emerging from the event as an award winner in several categories, Candleman went on to receive additional recognition on the web from Kongregate as well as within ID@XBOX, allowing Spotlightor to cultivate the game into a full length adventure.

“From its original conception to its near-final release, Candleman has captivated players at all stages of development with a simple core concept and tight platforming gameplay amid the darkness,” remarked Gao Ming, creator of Candleman. “Developing Candleman into an fully-fledged fairytale has been a great journey with the team at Spotlightor.”

Vidar, An RPG-Puzzler Where Everyone Dies Launches on Steam Early Access January 31st

In Vidar, you play as the Stranger, a character lost in a snowstorm and who made it to town at a time when no one can leave. What’s worse, every night in this town a villager is killed by a terrible Beast. Each of these residents has his or her own stories to tell and their own quests to give the player. As their neighbors, lovers, friends and family die, each is deeply affected by the loss – and their story arcs diverge accordingly. Because the order of deaths is random, the story that evolves in Vidar is different every time.

Some quick facts about Vidar:

  • Single player, combat-less RPG with an ever-randomized storyline
  • Randomized and very challenging puzzles in five distinct environments
  • For PC but plays nicely with an Xbox controller
  • Funded on Kickstarter in February 2015; raised over $19,000
  • Playcrafting’s “Best PC / Console Game of the Year” Nominee; selected finalist for the Intel Developer Showcase at Austin Games Con, MAGFest, Indie Revolution Expo, and Boston Festival of Indie Games

So far the reviews have been very positive, with Kotaku calling Vidar “A well-written, gripping and ever-changing storyline propelled forward by a Majora’s Mask-esque time crunch,” and Cliqist saying that it “wears its heart entirely on its sleeve.”
