On the site I asked if people would be willing to support me on Patron is I made IndieGameNews.com ad-free. The result was somewhat less than overwhelming...
Thanks to all who voted, particularly the one person who said yes - I hope you will consider supporting me anyway for the game pre-releases and other goodies I can offer, but even though my AdSense earnings from this site are low, I very much doubt a single person's monthly donation will equal it, so for now the ads stay I'm afraid.
On the other hand, I did a poll on Twitter regarding people's attitude towards Donationware (we called it Shareware in the old days though many people's concept of that term seems to have changed over the years, and you might also know it as Pay What You Want or Pay If You Want).
Both the number of voters and the way the voting fell were a nice surprise to me, although I admit that there's probably a strong case to be made for people not backing up their intentions with actual donations on many occasions. But still, it's encouraging for those considering this model of distribution.
