INSURGENCY and GameBanana Launch New Map Creation Contest

Denver, CO – June 26, 2014 – Now with full Steam Workshop integration in team-based shooter INSURGENCY, New World Interactive (NWI) announced today that it is partnering with GameBanana™ to launch a map creation contest hosted by www.gamebanana.com. To mark the occasion, NWI will also be providing a new game update that includes updated SDK content to help assist map creators.

“Releasing Workshop has been a great step in the right direction, however it remains important to continue supporting this community and attract some new talent along the way,” said Jeremy Blum, Founder and Game Director at NWI. “I’m very excited about this contest because I used to participate in similar contests when I was just getting started as a game developer. The prizes are definitely worth peoples’ time, whether unemployed or working at another game studio. The Razer Blade 14” laptop is a real piece of beauty. I own one myself and was pretty adamant about it being a prize for this. It’s great for both game development and travel. A rare gem in mobile PC hardware.”

Starting now, participants will have until Wednesday, August 20, to create, test, and upload their original maps to both Steam Workshop and GameBanana.com. GameBanana™ will select the top 10 maps submitted and send to NWI for final judging after the contest closes. NWI will also be publishing weekly tutorials on how to design and build a map for INSURGENCY, even creating a new map in parallel and sharing how it progresses.

First place winner of the contest will receive $1,000, a 14” Razer Blade Gaming laptop, a slew of Razer gaming gear, and the distinction of having their map become an official part of INSURGENCY. Second place will receive $800, a Razer prize pack that includes Razer keyboard, headset, and mouse, and the opportunity of having their map appear in game. The third place winner will receive $200 and the Razer prize, while the fourth place winner will receive $100 and the same prize pack.

“We’re all about customizing your PC gaming experience with unique user generated content, and with the addition of mod support for INSURGENCY, this contest was a fantastic fit in our minds,” said Jon Higgins, VP of marketing with GameBanana™. “We’re big fans of both INSURGENCY and Razer, so we’re very proud to be part of this contest - the largest one we’ve hosted thus far.”

Built on Valve’s Source Engine, INSURGENCY supports up to 32-person multiplayer and six-player cooperative, and showcases a training level as well as offline practice against AI to ease the learning curve for newcomers. The game is built for Windows PC and Mac OS X with Linux support in development.

The Farming One

New release - it's a competition entry for the 2014 Indie Game Maker Contest that happened to catch my eye.

The Farming One is a fast paced farming simulation game, with barely any farming or simulation at all. While starting with an eternally growing patch of radishes that you can harvest over and over again, you’ll get enough money to buy more crops, hire assistants, acquire tools and investing in the maintenance of the town, making it flourish with people again.

Soon enough, you’ll be chopping for lumber, fishing, mining, participating into festivals, going into business ventures, purchasing animals, getting married, and more! If that sounds pretty standard, consider that you can do all that within minutes. You’ll go from rich to poor and back in a blink of an eye!

But beware. Bandits have taken a liking to your business, and will hunt you down. How long are you going to take their bullying?

The Farming One takes the idea of Harvest Moon and mixes it with an incremental nature found in games like Little Inferno and A Dark Room, where buying stuff eventually gives you money to buy more stuff. There are so many activities to do while you wait for your money to pile!  Check it out here.

Tabletop RPG news: The Lost Territories

The Lost Territories is a tabletop RPG being developed by Hard Luck Workshop, with a unique character system, strange powers, and a gorgeous setting. Flintlocks and fireballs, together at last.

GOLDWELL TOWER, Lillenheim City—June 26th, 2014—Hard Luck Workshop announces that it has launched its Kickstarter campaign for The Lost Territories, a new tabletop roleplaying game, which promises great attention to the writing, elevated thematic concerns, and a setting unlike anything else on the market.
Joining the crew are several guest writers of some RPG renown, including Kris Straub (Acquisitions Incorporated, chainsawsuit, Broodhollow, and much more), Michael “ThriftyNerd” DiMauro (Drunks and Dragons podcast), and others to be announced in the next few days.
Hard Luck Workshop is a small collective of literary fiction writers and publishing industry professionals who all happen to share a love of roleplaying games. The group has decided to put its experience and skill
to use in making its own game (with a line of products already planned, should Hard Luck's initial offerings prove successful.) Furthermore, digital versions of some of the game’s related products, including the Player’s Guide, will be made available for free indefinitely.
What most distinctly sets the world of The Lost Territories apart from our own is that large portions of it are in constant flux. These regions—”The Lost Territories”—are continuously born and unmade, the landscape and inhabitants always changing. This is the byproduct of phenomena associated with celestia, a magic-like substance that does not behave nearly as neatly and safely as magic typically does in similar games.
Despite much of the world being inhospitable, people have thrived in stable regions. The main campaign setting's "home city" is the sprawling metropolis of Lillenheim. The campaign setting finds Lillenheim on the verge of a technological and industrial boom; steam and gunpowder are in active use, but a celestia engine
is in development that may change the face of the world. Players will be on the forefront of events that may steer the course of society.

The character creation process is fluid and flexible—you’ll find no set classes, but you’ll also find combina- tions of skills and abilities to create characters unlike anything seen in roleplaying games before. And unlike games in which roleplaying is touted as important but characters are only rewarded for killing monsters, The Lost Territories puts a special focus on a variety of challenges, exploration, and world-building.
(Be sure to check out the stretch goals while you're there.)

Dark Tormentum will appear on Steam

Poland, Gdynia -- Jun 27, 2014 -- Created by the Polish OhNoo studio Tormentum got green light from the Steam society in the blink of an eye and will be distributed on the platform

Tormentum spent only 23 days on the wait-list among the other productions hungering for the publication on the Steam platform. It was enough time for the game to win more votes than 1700 other productions yearning for being sold by the Valve’s platform. Some of them have been waiting for the Steam’s green light for several months.

Over 6 thousands people expressed their willingness to purchase Tormentum. It is 56% of all votes in favour of this production. Both, the remarkably short time spent in the wait-list and the outstanding number of positive votes are few and far between.

However, the fundraising for completion of the game on the Indiegogo platform has not finished yet. After Tormentum got Steam’s approval, 9 bucks is the minimum contribution with additional bonus i.e. the key to be used on the Valve’s platform.

Raising the humble amount of 9K USD will allow for completing the game in a flash and start its distribution in October 2014.

About Tormentum

Tormentum is a 2D adventure game developed by the independent 3-person OhNoo studio.

The action of the game is set in unfriendly, violent world where one has to demonstrate quick wits and make many ambiguous decisions.

The protagonist is a man suffering from amnesia whose faith dealt him short. He tries to pursue his wandering and not to give up.

Braiding these well-known motifs OhNoo studio plans to create one of the most bizarre, surrealistic worlds one has ever encountered in the adventure games.

The protagonist will visit three completely different lands with regard to their architecture, weather, and beasts living there. All together around 80 locations.

The game graphics makes the game truly exceptional. Dark and murky hand-made illustrations perfectly supplement ponderous and climatic soundtrack of the game.

Despite the fact that the works have not been completed, the game induced a lot of enthusiasm and interest of the most popular opinion-forming game media, such as “Destructoid”, or “Rock Paper, Shotgun”.

About OhNoo Studio
OhNoo Studio is a small, three-person team of developers & high-fliers wishing to leave their footprint on the electronic entertainment industry. They put top priority on 2D graphics which despite its limitations allows for creating a unique atmosphere for every player to sink into the game and loose oneself in it. Located in Poland the studio was founded in 2013.

Wyrmbyte Unleashes Act 4: The Titan’s Hand and a Host of Improvements for Fast Paced MOBA Dragons and Titans

Indie developer, Wyrmbyte, today announced several new updates for Dragons and Titans, a free-to-play (F2P) Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game currently available on Steam and on Facebook. The updates include a new weapon and dragon as well as three improved game modes and the release of a brand new story driven Act.

Further improvements to minimize queue times have been implemented. Players can always count on battling with the dragon and weapon of their choice, with matches now allowing duplicate dragons and weapons. Additionally, match rewards have increased from three crystals per minute to four, translating to an average of 30% more rewards per individual match, which gamers can spend in-game to improve weapons, dragons and overall play experience.

In addition to all of these improvements, Wyrmbyte has also released the much-anticipated Act 4: The Titan’s Hand  which reveals another story arc that gamers can play solo to unravel the deeper lore behind Dragons and Titans. While the Titan's Pact ensured that neither Astaroth nor Hyperion could rule indefinitely, mortals always chose the victor, however a prophecy spoke of a mortal with the power to undo the pact: the Titan’s Hand. Make haste to the city of Tal'il to uncover the truth!  Players who complete the act will be awarded with the Autodrake dragon.

Along with the latest lore, players can prepare for epic battle with the newly released dragon, Netherdrake, whose skills include Nether Burst, where the Netherdrake spews forth bolts of pure Nether energy that sap an enemy’s health and mana, and Rift Storm, which allows the Netherdrake to teleport a short distance forward to emerge from a rift in the Nether that bleeds away enemy health. Also newly released is the weapon, Skyripper: The Blade That Should Not Be. Skyripper’s special abilities include Nether Strike, in which a large explosion of pure Nether energy is released, damaging all in a nearby radius and leaving a permanent mana drain on anything struck by the force, and Sky Rip, which opens a gate to the Nether, allowing Nether Imps to enter the world to feed. The gate remains open until destroyed. Skyripper is not about strength – the weapon itself does not deal much damage, so partner it up with a high DPS dragon for maximum attack power.
Dragons & Titans is currently available free-to-play on Steam or Facebook.

About Dragons and Titans:
Dragons and Titans executes on all the promises of a MOBA but distinguishes itself with 15 minute match times and unique RPG elements.  In the game, your champions are Dragons and a variety of game modes gives you the power on how to play. Show true courage and skill to become a Dragon Lord as you embark on your quest to free your Titan from captivity.  Select from over 30 unique dragons and 30 legendary weapons, each with unique abilities and progression levels. Take your battle to the next level by upgrading your dragons and forging your weapons. Free your Titan in fierce 5v5 PvP battle across 3 different map types or delve deeper into the story in ‘Adventure Mode’, traveling across different regions of the Lands Below, unlocking exclusive Dragons as you complete each set of missions. Gain favor with the Titans and climb the PvP leaderboards to prove your true worth as the ultimate Dragon Lord!

Asymmetrical Co-op Globetrotting Spy Thriller Clandestine Reaches Alpha Testing Phase

Copenhagen, Denmark -- June 26, 2014 -- Danish indie developer Logic Artists today announced that Clandestine is now in alpha for PC. Set during the mid-1990’s, Clandestine is a globetrotting spy fantasy with asymmetrical cooperative gameplay mechanics and a deep, dark storyline.

With the alpha announcement, Logic Artists has also revealed new details about the two player roles in Clandestine: The Spy and The Hacker. Using familiar 3rd-person stealth game mechanics such as concealed weapons, (including grenades and handguns), a stealth cover system, brutal lethal as well as non-lethal takedowns and cool gadgets, the Spy must covertly enter corporate headquarters, hideouts and safe houses across two continents. Meanwhile, the Hacker utilizes a 2D computer interface, reminiscent of the mid-1990’s, to run support for the Spy on the ground by controlling and disabling security cameras, locking and unlocking digitally controlled doors and systems, blinding enemies by synchronously turning on and off all lights in an area, bribing enemies and non-player characters (NPCs) and coordinating Dead Drops of Health and Ammo for the Spy.

“The symbiotic relationship between the Spy and the Hacker forms the backbone of Clandestine’s gameplay mechanics, as to achieve success players must work together and communicate to overcome obstacles and escape dangerous situations”, said Jonas Wæver, Lead Designer for Logic Artists. “Now that we have reached the alpha milestone we are really ironing out the co-op features of Clandestine to make sure that whether gamers prefer to play as Hacker or Spy, each role is equally as fun, interesting and satisfying”.

To offer more information about the setting and intricate backstory of Clandestine, Logic Artists has also today launched the first in a series of developer video blogs:

About Clandestine
The year is 1996, five years after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, a string of accidents and murders have gone unnoticed by the public, but have put the world of espionage on high alert. Wadjet Eye Games Will Release "A Golden Wake" PC Adventure This Fall

Travel back to the Roaring Twenties in a point-and-click epic from indie developer Grundislav Games

NEW YORK - June 26, 2014 - The Roaring Twenties: a bygone era of glitz, glamour, and promise. In Coral Gables -- a booming housing development near Miami, Florida -- the real estate market is taking off and even an ordinary guy like Alfie Banks has a chance to strike it rich. But with the mob on his back, the Great Depression on the horizon, and the Sunshine State's idyllic waterfront only a hurricane away from total devastation, Alfie's quest will not be an easy one in A Golden Wake, a new point-and-click adventure game coming to PC this fall.

Developed by Francisco Gonzalez of Grundislav Games (Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator) and published by indie powerhouse Wadjet Eye Games (Blackwell EpiphanyResonanceGemini Rue), A Golden Wake is a nostalgic adventure that spans two dramatic decades in American history. Set in the era of Gatsby with a plot that includes real people, locations, and events, A Golden Wake has story- and puzzle-driven gameplay, retro-styled pixel art, and a point-and-click interface reminiscent of classics like King's Quest and Monkey Island. Alfie's power of persuasion will play a unique role as he analyzes other characters' attitudes and weaknesses to figure out the best way to approach them.
"Having grown up in Miami, I wanted to tell the story of an era that's usually depicted in New York or Chicago," says A Golden Wake's designer Francisco Gonzalez of his decision to set a game during the Jazz Age. "Miami's land boom and bust during the 1920s and 1930s represents a fascinating slice of our recent history, and I was able to incorporate a lot of real people and events into the narrative of this everyman going after the American Dream."

"I first met Francisco in the early 2000s, back when we were both scrappy freeware developers. Since then, I've watched him move from strength to strength and I was so happy when he made the leap to commercial development. I feel very honored to be partnering up with him now," says Dave Gilbert, founder of Wadjet Eye Games. "As for A Golden Wake, I just love it. This game a fun, poignant romp through 1920s-era Miami that is both meticulously researched and perfectly relevant to our current times."
A Golden Wake will release in Q3 2014 as a PC download.
