Agharta Studio will make Oculus Rift adventure games; Shufflepuck Cantina demo on Steam is proof of conccept

Attention, Weary Space Travelers: Unwind at the Shufflepuck Cantina in Newly Released Oculus Rift Demo
Proof-of-concept prototype puts Agharta Studio at forefront of virtual reality adventure game development
LYON, France - January 29, 2014 - Fancy a drink in a faraway galaxy? Here's the next best thing: Agharta Studio has today released a new demo of their hybrid role-playing / air hockey game Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe with Oculus Rift VR headset support. This demo serves as a proof-of-concept prototype for Agharta's plan to create virtual reality adventure games, starting with an unannounced project in early development.
Agharta is a small indie studio best known for 1112, a series of episodic adventure games for touch screen devices.Shufflepuck Cantina -- a nod to the 1989 cult classic Shufflepuck Café -- sends a space traveler on an intergalactic pit stop to play air hockey against a variety of amusing aliens. Set in a multi-level watering hole patronized by colorful characters whose backstories influence their tournament strategies, Shufflepuck Cantina rewards players who explore the surroundings and get to know their competitors. Following an initial mobile release, an enhanced version named Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxedebuted for PC, Mac, and Linux in December after being Greenlit by Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/259510/
The Shufflepuck Cantina Oculus Rift demo sets you loose to explore one of the cantina's floors as if you were really there. Move your head to scan the room, chat with other patrons, open holographic menus, and engage in friendly (and sometimes not-so-friendly) rounds of air hockey. In creating this demo, the developers redesigned the UI to be comfortable and immersive in virtual reality -- characteristics that will carry over into their new adventure game. To see Shufflepuck Cantina's Oculus Rift support in action, visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gkG-Hv5Zgw
Agharta dove into virtual reality development last summer with EpicDragon VR, an arcade game prototype born out of the 3-week VR Jam presented by Oculus VR and IndieCade. EpicDragon VR puts the player on the back of a dragon, soaring the skies of a strange fantasy world while collecting Eggs of Light to counter a catastrophic solar eclipse. The prototype, which the organizers recognized as a VR Jam 2013 finalist, can be downloaded here: https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=3407
"At Agharta Studio, we like going where no one else has gone. 1112 was the first adventure game for iPhone, then one of the first for iPad. Now we want to be one of the first to make adventures for Oculus Rift," says Aurelien Kerbeci, the studio's CEO and co-founder. "While Shufflepuck Cantina is not an adventure game, its quirky world is the perfect place to experiment with virtual reality. Creating this demo gave us a good feel for how to use the Oculus Rift VR headset in an adventure game and we're now applying what we've learned to the adventure prototype we're working on."
Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe for PC, Mac, and Linux can be purchased on Steam for $9.99 USD (http://store.steampowered.com/app/259510/) as well as from GetGames, Desura, and other online stores. The Oculus Rift demo is offered as bonus content through Steam.
About Agharta Studio
Agharta Studio is a small indie team located in Lyon, France. Having worked together on licensed games published by Atari and Vivendi, the principals formed Agharta in 2008 to explore new game ideas for emerging touch screen technology. An early arrival on both iPhone and iPad, their ongoing mystery adventure series 1112 has had three episodes released so far. In 2012 the team developed a hybrid role-playing / air hockey, Shufflepuck Cantina, as a homage to the cult classic Shufflepuck Café. Following a successful mobile launch, Agharta revamped the game for desktop computers and released the fully featured Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe for PC, Mac, and Linux in December 2013. The team has recently turned their attention to Oculus Rift development with an unannounced adventure game in early production. Learn more at http://www.aghartastudio.com.

Beat Blasters 3

Beat Blasters III Dances Towards Steam Release

Rhythm meets platformer in strange lands for Windows, Mac, and Linux!

Jan 27, 2014 – Chainsawesome Games (http://chainsawesomegames.com/) is stomping with the beat towards their first release on Steam with the award winning BeatBlasters III, a unique platformer game that mixes rhythm with a funky fresh world full of colorful, strange, characters and places. BeatBlasters III won Intel's LevelUp, Best in Sound award and features an amazing soundtrack of dynamic music, changing based on your accuracy and maneuvers performed in the game.

Take control of Joey or Gina, two beat loving kids with some amazing powers (and totally different music) as they save the inhabitants of the town of Accapella from the music hating butcher. Armed with their three powers they will protect and aid the denizens of this strange land; for right, justice, and the freedom to listen to some killer tunes.
Each character in Beat Blasters III has unique music as well as a unique special power to aid them on their quest. Each character also shares the same three main abilities, an attack power, a shield bubble, and jet boots. Each use of these items depletes their energy, which is recharged through accurate rhythm tapping. However, while building energy the heroes are unable to attack or defend themselves, making the pacing of energy growth and decline a frantic battle of the bands. Every level and battle is a totally unique experience, keeping the game fresh as the kids attempt to reach The Butcher and end his reign of silence. The better you do on each level the more stars you'll earn towards unlocking 8 different weapons to use in your battle against silence.
BeatBlasters III is a fun for all ages romp through a crazy world with amazing tunes and completely original gameplay. Winner of the LevelUp Best in Sound award it will truly knock your socks off. Learn more at http://chainsawesomegames.com/beatblasters-iii/

Albion Online Introduces The Destiny Board

CONTROL YOUR DESTINY IN ALBION ONLINE
Traditional Level Up Replaced By Unique Board

Berlin, January 24, 2014— Sandbox Interactive today unveils the new Destiny Board feature for their upcoming cross-platform Sandbox MMO, Albion Online.  Eschewing traditional level ups, players instead earn small perks and bonuses over a period of time by performing actions based on what their character is learning.  Players can view the full Destiny Board and sign up for the upcoming closed beta test at http://albiononline.com/
“The Destiny Board was designed to give players some direction in a world in which there are no levels,” said David Salz, Technical Director at Sandbox Interactive, “Though players are not relying on a traditional level-up system, they are still able to plan their own Destiny in the world of Albion, and become their own unique hero.”

Via the Destiny Board, players themselves could decide how to focus the development of their character.  Depending on which of the three paths players choose (Crafting, PvE, and PvP), there will be various unlockable bonuses to acquire, which will help players design and support their own play style.  Missions on the Destiny Board will range from gathering a certain number of materials, taking or dealing damage, getting a certain number of kills, a certain level of fame, and other goals.

The Destiny Board is divided into three major areas:

The first consists of a number of missions and quests which will reward you with various vanity items as well as some small bonus stats. These missions are divided into 3 branches: PvP, PvE and Casual.

In the center of the Destiny Board can be found all of the items in the game. Here you can unlock both the skills to equip and wear these items as well as the ability to craft them.

In the lower part you’ll find everything relating to the buildings in Albion Online. Here you can unlock new and more powerful buildings to craft.

When objectives are completed, a reward in the form of an item or building recipe, or a permanent bonus to a character’s hit points, carry weight, armor rating, or damage when using a certain weapon is granted.  This will ensure players rise swiftly up the ranks in a way which complements their individual play style. The Destiny Board is a way of providing direction to players while avoiding classification and restriction.  Creating a mage with ranged weapons, or a tank with healing spells, any combination is possible in a classless system!

In addition to the full Destiny Board, which can be reached straight from the HUD, players are given a prompt for three or more current objectives at the bottom edge of the screen at login; with these reminders, you’ll be able to pick up from where you left off last time.

Albion Online is the first true cross-platform MMO, running on different devices including Windows, iOS and Android at the same time and in the same world!  Albion Online will go into beta in early 2014 and players can get all the latest updates by following the game on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/albiononline and Twitter: @albiononline, or on Google+ https://plus.google.com/u/0/102755040714140552319/posts and on YouTube at  http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9gij-VpDFWaaqn1zLM4TEQ

Skara: The Blade Remains - Greenlit

LONDON, UK – January 23, 2014 – This week SKARA, The Blade Remains joined the list of games available via Steam Greenlight, the worldwide distributor of videogames online.

It took SKARA only eight days to gather the support necessary from the Steam Community.

“We couldn’t believe SKARA had over 240 votes in only two hours!” exclaimed Pablo Rodriguez, CEO and Creative Director in charge of SKARA. “The votes of support were really the best reward after so much work.”

SKARA plans on bringing massively multiplayer gaming to a new level, by creating a new gaming genre: MOV - Multiplayer Online Versus, where as many as 16 players enter arenas to engage in the kind of real-time combat fighting seen in versus games.

“Steam, in many ways the pioneer of online multiplayer gaming, is the ideal platform to launch SKARA” said Cesar Ortega, CFO of SKARA. “We are really glad and thankful to have a place there now going forward.”

For its part, the Steam Community seems happy too.

“These titles were selected on the same criteria we have been using in the past” said the Steam announcement regarding 2014 Greenlight games. “Votes in Greenlight give us a hugely valuable point of data in gauging community interest.”

SKARA was also named one the “most anticipated games of 2014” by video game blog Two Dash Stash.  From the beginning, members of the SKARA team realized one of the hardest things for a video game is to get any attention prior to release.

“What’s the most amazing in my opinion is that nobody has had the chance to play the game yet,” said Rodriguez. “They don’t know how good it is!”

WindForge coming to Steam March 11 after successful Kickstarter

Snowed In Studios is pleased to announce that WindForge is available for sale as a pre-release at www.windforgegame.com and will be launched on March 11, 2014, on the Steam Store.

WindForge received the green light from the Steam Community on January 7, 2014.

The game has been partially funded by a Kickstarter campaign, which ran from November 6 to December 6, 2013, and was successful thanks to the backers who got behind the title to contribute just over $50,000 to complete the game.

This financial contribution allowed Snowed In Studios, who offer work-for-hire game development services, to continue production and bring their first original title to market as planned.

'We had a difficult choice to make, to keep working on the game with the help of the WindForge community or to shorten production and launch the game in the fall. Running the campaign takes time and resources and we were not sure what was the right thing to do, given the statistics on how many Kickstarters fail,' says Jean-Sylvain Sormany, the president of Snowed in Studios. 'We literally did not know if we made the right decision or not until the very last minute. We met our goal with only 62 seconds on the clock, so it was pretty tight!'

The pre-release version of the game, which was made available to backers in December, is now available for sale on the studio’s website: http://windforgegame.snowedin.ca

WindForge is an RPG that allows players to build their own airships and explore the hostile skies.   It mixes 2D-shooter action with the freedom to create and explore.
