Underwater textless adventure game with color mixing puzzles

Pigsels Media announce their new game "Coloropus".

Coloropus is an underwater themed adventure/puzzle game about a little color-addicted octopus.

-- Gameplay is based on solving color mixing and physics puzzles -- player can explore large ocean world, fight with foes, collect upgrades and interact with NPCs and environment.
-- No use of spoken and written language. All interactions between the game character and NPCs come as little animated comics in speech bubbles telling main storyline and providing a player with hints.
-- Seamless game immersion: main menu, progress, credits -- everything is part of game itself.
-- There is karma system in game -- if Coloropus dies he goes either to Heaven or Hell depending on playing style. Player can return to the place he ended up dying after successful escape and resurrection.
-- Underwater atmosphere is carefully grained and sustained -- dozens of beautiful hand-drawn locations scattered around the sea from peaceful and calm places down to deep, dark and creepy labyrinths going hand by hand with a number of corresponding ambient soundtracks.
-- Game story tells about Coloropus and his adventures while struggling to save his girlfriend Pinky who got kidnapped by strange creature just after they met the first time.

Coloropus has recently won the "Future Hit" and "Most steady game" trophies at the Flash GAMM Game Contest (http://www.flashgamm.com/kyiv2011/en/contest/), which was held in Kiev, Ukraine, in December 2011.

Dortmund, Germany (March 29, 2012): z-software would like to inform you that the PC version of the independent game Solar Struggle is released TODAY! The game will be available on the LittleIndie platform with a discount of 25% on the original price of €6.95 till March 30th, 2012, 00:00 CET. So the game will cost only €5.19 for this limited time.

Original game features:

- Thrilling story in 11 missions
- Challenging skirmish mode - beat wave after wave of enemies, customize your ship and unlock new ship classes with more firepower
- Simplified 2D gameplay in a 3D world
- High-definition graphics
- 9 different, playable ship classes
- 36 awards to be unlocked only by the highest skilled players

It took some time to port the game from the original XBOX 360 platform onto the PC. We didn’t want to simply push the game onto the PC platform, but deliver a fully working, PC-optimized version of the game. So these are a few points we’ve changed for the PC version:

- Fully customizable keyboard controls
- Mouse-optimized game menus
- New graphics style
- Higher resolution textures
- Free choice of display resolution
- Integration of the LittleIndie online platform

The development of Solar Struggle began in 2008 by hobby game developer Sascha Kemper. In 2009, after a display of the game at the newcomer area on the German G.A.M.E. association booth at the Games Convention in Leipzig, z-software took care of the project. In 2010, the involvement of Z-Software helped the game to reach our own high-set quality mark for a release on the XBOX Live Indie Games platform. For 400 Microsoft Points, the game was one of the highest in quality and largest in scale ever released on XBOX Live Indie Games. In August 2010, during the gamescom in cologne, the game was finally published on the XBOX Marketplace. It was showed at the public booth of our partner redspotgames, where interested gamers from all over the world could get a glimpse at the game.

In the following months, z-software worked on a spin-off of Solar Struggle, named Solar Struggle: Survival. It released in January, 2011, for 80 Microsoft Points on XBLIG. It featured an evolved version of the original skirmish mode of Solar Struggle, but without the 11 missions-long main storyline.

Now, after nearly two years of being busy with other projects, z-software recently release the original Solar Struggle game for the PC platform today. It will be exclusively launched at the LittleIndie game distribution platform.

Fist Puncher Kickstarter Campaign Goes Live

Santa Cruz, California - March 28th, 2012 - Team2Bit’s Kickstarter campaign to fund the completion of their old school beat ‘em up game, Fist Puncher, has officially launched. The campaign runs through April 29th and aims to raise $10,000.

Fist Puncher follows a team of vigilantes led by Dr. Karate, world renowned neurosurgeon and black belt, as they perform unnecessary surgery on the crime lords that hold a lawless city in their brutal grip. The gameplay is true to the classic era of button mashing brawlers, as players choose from a diverse cast of characters and take to the streets to battle endless waves of thugs and ruffians. But Fist Puncher offers a deeper experience than the quarter eating games that made the genre famous, including RPG elements and a wealth of unlockable content. “Think Double Dragon meets Castle Crashers”, says studio co-founder Jake Lewandowski.

Already in development for over a year, Fist Puncher touts thousands of pixel art sprites and backgrounds that capture a nostalgic retro gaming aesthetic. The Kickstarter rewards range from copies of Fist Puncher to an appearance as a pixel art character in the game. Fans of Team2Bit’s appearance as Team Fist Puncher on IGN’s ‘The Next Game Boss’ can also receive a digital copy of Washington’s Wig, their running platformer featuring George Washington’s fictional dog and a similar 8-bit art style.

Fist Puncher is slated for release on Xbox LIVE Indie Games and PC, and Team2Bit hopes a successful Kickstarter will attract publishers and open doors to other platforms.

Guns of Icarus Soundtrack Composer

Zain Effendi to Compose Soundtrack for Guns of Icarus Online
We’ve got music, who could ask for anything more?

March 27, 2012 – Following Muse Games’s successful Kickstarter campaign for Guns of Icarus Online

(www.gunsoficarus.com), award-winning composer Zain Effendi has decided to lend his amazing
talents to help create the mood of the post-apocalyptic airship combat game. Mr. Effendi worked with
Hans Zimmer’s team at Remote Control Productions on the scores of legendary films like Pirates of the
Caribbean 3, Kung Fu Panda, and The Dark Knight before starting his own studio. “We are excited to be
collaborating with Zain to set the mood for high-tension combat, stealth, and adventure in the desolate
wastes. With music being a vital part of the game experience, we are fortunate to have Zain’s help to
create something epic and exciting,” says Muse Games CEO Howard Tsao.

Three hundred years ago was the beginning of the war, the Great War that never really ended. Cities

were converted to war machines or rubble, citizens to soldiers or refugees, and the war raged until it

consumed the world and turned the fertile plains to dust. Only when nations ceased to exist did they
cease to send out armies and fleets to do battle, leaving those who remained, struggling not for
dominance now but for survival, to regroup and rebuild among the ruins of the modern age. Where
scattered survivors met they sometimes clashed, their skirmishes spasmodically reenacting the great
wars in miniature, and they sometimes found a common interest and banded together, sheltering in
makeshift camps. The largest of the camps became towns, and the largest of the towns became
burgeoning cities, as slowly, life returned to the once-verdant wastes. When a man named Gabriel built
the Icarus, the first airship, and sailed across the Burren, connecting the isolated towns, some said it
was an atrocity; some said it was the future; and some said it would change everything. They were all
right. Soon, others followed in his footsteps and built new airships, and a new age of commerce, and
conflict, began. Humanity once again has the chance to flourish, or to plunge once more into the greed
and violence that already brought it to the edge of extinction.

Welcome to Guns of Icarus Online, the unique co-operative airship combat game mixing together firstperson

shooter action with team-based strategy. Up to four people will crew a ship, taking on one of
the key roles of Captain, Gunner, or Engineer, and battling it out against other ships above the postapocalyptic
waste. In Guns of Icarus Online it will take teamwork and tactics to dominate the skies.

Gateways PC demo released today

Still anxiously awaiting the release of Gateways?  Well now you can finally try the game yourself as the Windows demo is available on the Smudged Cat Games website:

http://www.smudgedcat.com/gateways.htm

Master the standard and resizing gateway guns in this demo that lets you play through the beginning stages of the game.  Ideal preparation for the game’s full release on Windows and XBox LIVE Indie Games on the 22nd of June.

If you like what you see then you can pre-order the full game now for just $10 from the Smudged Cat website so that you’ll be sure to get it whenever it’s released.  If you’re feeling more generous then you can support your local friendly game developer with the $30 deluxe package.  If you do you’ll be rewarded with some promotional goodies in time for the game’s release,... a Gateways mouse mat, signed A2 poster of the map and a Smudged Cat Games pen!

Due for release on the 22nd of June, Gateways is a 2D platform game set in the lab of an inventor called Ed following an outbreak of a number of his more "creative" experiments. Can you help him escape the lab?

Alongside the traditional platform elements such as jumping on enemies heads, spikes and moving platforms are the gateway guns. The gateway guns allow you to place two gateways on the walls, floors and ceilings of the lab so that when you pass through one you emerge out of the other. As progress is made through the game different types of gateway gun are introduced with different effects. After the basic gun, you acquire a gun that creates two gateways of different sizes, passing through one way shrinks Ed to half his size and the other way makes Ed grow to twice his size. Then you find a gun where one gateway doesn't just connect to the others location but also its time, allowing Ed to travel back in time and encounter earlier versions of himself. Finally, the last gun manipulates gravity so passing through allows Ed to walk along walls and on ceilings.

Gateways takes place on a single sprawling map rammed with puzzles and challenges. As power ups are acquired more and more of the map opens up containing more power ups and secrets. In addition to the gateway guns Ed will also find a torch letting him light up the darker areas of the map and a mirror which can be used to deflect lasers.

A sophisticated help system will help Ed along throughout the game. Every puzzle has a help point next to it where Ed can use power orbs to find out if the puzzle can be solved using his current power ups and abilities. If it can be solved and you're still stumped then spending more power orbs will provide you with the solution.

Brian Fargo goes indie with a Kickstarter campaign for Wasteland 2

"Wasteland 2 is the direct sequel to the first ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG. The original Wasteland was the inspiration for the FALLOUT series of games, and the first RPG to allow players to split parties for tactical considerations, to face players with moral choices, and to make them deal with the consequences of their actions. It was the first to provide far more than the one-key-for-one-lock style of puzzle solving. It was groundbreaking, which is why IGN named it one of the top 25 PC games of all time, Computer Gaming World named it the Adventure Game of the year in 1988, and it was short-listed for inclusion in the Smithsonian Institution’s current “Art of the Computer Game” exhibition.

Wasteland was set in a dangerous, post-apocalyptic world in the American Southwest. Over the course of adventures rangers would receive promotions, acquire new skills and equipment, then face new challenges with outcomes that changed depending on the strategy used to defeat them. The game featured a strong storyline which required painful decisions by players; and a storyline that allowed for maximum re-playability. Wasteland 2, with your participation and insights, will recapture all that and provide more. It'll finally be the game worthy to be a Wasteland sequel, as challenging and rewarding as the original, with all added capacity and dazzle of games today.

For Wasteland 2, we’re getting the band back together again!. Brian Fargo who Executive Produced both Wasteland and Fallout will be heading the team. Alan Pavlish and Mike Stackpole—the original game’s primary designers—are coming back to put the project together, and we’re rounding up as many of the other designers, like Ken St. Andre, as we can. On top of that, we’ll have music by Mark Morgan of Fallout 1 and 2 fame. The storyline for Wasteland 2 was written by Jason Anderson who was the co-creator of Fallout. We have also enlisted the help of the amazing concept artist, Andree Wallin to help craft the Wasteland 2 world.

Brian Fargo founded Interplay Productions (By Gamers, For Gamers) in 1983 where he went on to produce and finance some of the biggest RPG's made like Bard's Tale, Fallout 1 and 2, Stonekeep, Dragon Wars, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and more. Creating a new Wasteland will be a point of pride in the long history of games."

It isn't easy, being an indie dev...

From the Indie Open House Project:

Life isn’t always easy for Indie developers: sometimes you want to add online multiplayer to your promising upcoming action/puzzle title but then your art department/wife gets pregnant. With that in mind, we’d like to share with you a new video for A Virus Named Tom, an infectious coop/competitive action-puzzler from indie game dev, Misfits Attic.  The video offers a fun glimpse of the trials, tribulations and triumphs of indie game development -- and blames a new baby for feature cuts -- along with gameplay video showcasing the addictive and fast-paced action of the game (currently slated for launch on Steam and OnLive in Late April).

A Virus Named Tom is an action puzzler in which players rearrange circuits to spread a virus (whose name is Tom, but you probably already figured that out) while dodging anti-virus drones. It’s one of the few puzzle games out there where you can play co-operatively with up to 3 friends as well as including a battle mode where you can take on your friends for virus supremacy.

Misfits Attic is a part of GameSpy Technology’s Indie Open House program, an indie incubator and residency program that leverages GameSpy Technology's resources to provide free office space, technology, peer support, and consultation to help selected teams design, craft, and execute their inspired game ideas. Four development teams are currently in the middle of their six month residency working in GameSpy Technology/IGN Entertainment’s San Francisco office: Cryptic Sea, Interabang Entertainment, Misfits Attic and Wolfire.

For more information on A Virus Named Tom, check out the official site: http://www.avirusnamedtom.com/
