iPhone Piracy

Sadly, Big Blue Bubble have reported elsewhere that piracy for their new game Burn the Rope appears to be well over 90%.  99 cents is really such a lot of money to ask...  No system, it appears, is safe from the evils of piracy.  With the indie game sphere, it's not like pirates can use the flimsy defence that they're "only" stealing from a big faceless organisation - we're talking one or two people trying to eke out a living with many indie studios.

Tilt to Live's Viva la Turret Expansion Released for iPhone

One Man Left Studios today announces the first paid expansion for its Tilt to Live for iOS, called Viva la Turret. Available as an In-App Purchase, users can access a new weapon, the Perforator turret, and a new gametype called Viva la Turret. Tilt to Live is an arcade shooter with a unique combat system. While this expansion only applies to the iPhone version of the game, an iPad adaptation is also in the works.

Tilt to Live - One Man Left

Montgomery, Alabama - One Man Left Studios today is pleased to announce the release of the first paid expansion for Tilt to Live for iOS, called Viva la Turret. For a 99 US In-App Purchase, users can access a new weapon, the Perforator turret, and a new gametype called Viva la Turret. While this expansion only applies to the iPhone version of the game, an iPad adaptation is also in the works.

Tilt to Live, currently enjoyed by more than half a million users, is an arcade shooter with a unique combat system. Rather than endlessly firing at enemies, players must evade them long enough to reach a weapon orb. On contact, each of the ten unlockable orbs unleashes a different offensive attack, including a burning barricade, an ice blast, and a spinning shield of spikes. All of this action is controlled exclusively by responsive, customizable tilt controls.

In Viva la Turret, Tilt to Live's fifth gametype, players must make expert use of the new minigun turret against an endless barrage of fresh dot formations. Each turret lasts six point-earning seconds, during which players are fixed in place, vulnerable to droves of dots bearing down from all angles.

For each dot eliminated, a jewel is left behind. The number of jewels a player can collect between turrets will determine their score multiplier, making the difference between a "meh" highscore and a "MUAHAHA" one. Earning 2.5 million lifetime points in Viva la Turret will unlock the Perforator weapon for use in the game's Code Red and Classic modes.

Viva la Turret marks the third expansion since Tilt to Live's February release. Previous expansions, all free of charge, have included the addition of three other gametypes: Code Red, Gauntlet, and Frostbite, as well as the unlockable "Burnicade" weapon.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
* Requires iOS 3.0 or later (iOS 4.0 Tested)
* 19.4 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Viva la Turret is available as an in-app purchase for $0.99 (USD). Tilt to Live 1.6 is $2.99 (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category.

Burn the Rope - Big Blue Bubble

London, Canada - Big Blue Bubble Inc. today is pleased to announce the release and immediate worldwide availability of Burn the Rope, their new original strategy game with puzzle elements for iOS devices. Winning the hearts of users with smash hit Thumpies - game that reinvented the rhythm genre - developers are intended to do it again by brining to the App Store a unique game for all who are fascinated with flame and all kinds of fire effects.

Starting today users have the freedom to set fire without any fire hazard or need for a fire extinguisher. The game involves a mix of strategic planning, thinking ahead, coordination and the ability to stay in deep focus. The challenge is that fire only burns upwards, leaving players to tilt and turn their iPhones to keep the flame alive.

The game features 80 devilishly tricky levels with polished graphics and mesmerizing fire effects. Bugs that crawl along the rope spice things up demonstrating different reactions to the flame from level to level. Ants change the color of the flame so that users could burn different colored ropes, and the spider shoots out a web bridge providing access to the parts of the level that were beyond players' reach before.

"Burn The Rope is our most innovative game initially prototyped with a string of rope and box of matches. It's really easy to learn, but quite hard to master! That game was created with the whole family in mind and I'm sure that all family members will have enormous fun playing with fire." - said Damir Slogar, CEO of Big Blue Bubble Inc.

NEW YORK, December 20, 2010 – Independent developer and publisher Wadjet Eye Games is announcing a special holiday price for their Blackwell adventure game series. Now through January 1, the 3-game bundle is on sale for only $9.99—a 60% discount on the usual $24.99 price. The downloadable PC bundle, which contains The Blackwell Legacy, Blackwell Unbound, and The Blackwell Convergence, can be purchased from http://www.wadjeteyegames.com.

The Blackwell games are atmospheric mystery games reminiscent of the “golden age” adventures from Sierra and LucasArts. When Rosa Blackwell’s only relative dies after languishing in a coma for twenty years, Rosa thinks the worst is over. Then Joey Mallone, a sardonic ghost from the 1930s, blows into her life and reveals that she is a spirit medium. As much as Rosa wants to turn her back on her family legacy, it’s now up to this unlikely pair to assist tortured souls and cure New York City’s supernatural ills, whether they like it or not.

The Blackwell games were created by a small indie team led by Wadjet Eye Games founder Dave Gilbert. Features include retro cartoon graphics, a point and click interface, voice acting, a fully orchestrated soundtrack, and unlockable extras such as concept art and voiceover blooper reels. The story-driven gameplay focuses on investigation, character interaction, and puzzle solving. Throughout each game, the playable character alternates between medium and spirit, with each character possessing unique abilities.

Since its debut in 2007, the Blackwell series has developed a cult following among adventure and casual gamers. This year The Blackwell Convergence won an AdventureGamers.com “Aggie” award for Best Dramatic Writing. A fourth game, Blackwell Deception, will release in 2011.

Sonitaire 1.0 for iPhone Blends Solitaire, Music Composition and Fun

PhenomenArts Inc. today released "Sonitaire" 1.0 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Sonitaire is a new launch and a truly unique application. Based on the classic card game of Solitaire, this app uses thirty cards with six suits of color with each suit consisting of five gradient colors. Every colored card has a musical note associated with it, which is heard when tapped. A stack of cards plays all the notes in the stack; a win plays the entire song created by the cards used.

Sonitaire - Phenomenarts, Inc.

Lexington, Massachusetts - Announcing PhenomenArts Inc., the developer of Sonitaire, has released an exciting game for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Sonitaire is a new launch and truly unique application. Based on the classic card game of Solitaire, this app uses thirty cards with six suits of color, each suit consisting of five gradient colors. Every colored card has a musical note associated with it, which is heard when tapped. A stack of cards plays all the notes in the stack; a win plays the entire song created by the cards used.

Sonitaire is an exciting and fun game just launched in the AppStore. There is no other app quite like it. Created by artist and composer, Christopher Janney, Sonitaire combines pure color and music to offer users a unique twist to that age old favorite card game, Solitaire.

Gameplay in this app is basically the same as Solitaire. Every 3rd, 4th, or 5th card (player's choice) in the deck is flipped over. Players must stack cards in descending order in the middle row then position them in ascending order in the top row. That's where the similarity between the two games ends.

The Sonitaire deck consists of a total of thirty cards. Instead of playing with hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs, there are six suits of different colors - red, orange, green, yellow, blue and violet. Within each suit, there are five gradient color variations.

Each of the Sonitaire cards has an associated musical tone. When a player taps on a card, the note sounds. If a player adds a card to a stack, all of the notes in the stack play. When the player wins a game, every tone used in their cards plays out as a song. The player becomes a composer.

All of the cards in this app are numbered to make placement easier. If a player is looking for extra challenge, the card labels may be turned off, leaving the player to figure out where the card belongs without help.

These are some of the Sonitaire features:
* Simple, easy-to-use interface - just tap and drag
* Created by artist and composer Christopher Janney
* 6 suits of solid colors, each with 5 gradient variations
* Each card has its own unique audio tone
* Merely tap a card to hear its tone
* Set option to flip every 3rd, 4th, or 5th card in the deck
* Play with numerical values showing or turn off for extra challenge
* Game wins produce all notes played out as a song

Sonitaire is extremely easy to use. It has a simple interface that requires only tap and drag operation for full enjoyment of the game.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone and iPod touch, iPad
* Requires iOS 3.1 or later
* 4.6 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Sonitaire 1.0 is only $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category.

Sonitaire - Phenomenarts, Inc.
PhenomenArts, Inc. is a group of architects and musicians who create works combining their two disciplines. Sometimes, they make architecture more like music such as they did in their REACH New York project, "Urban Musical Instruments." Other times, PhenomenArts developers create music to mimic architecture, making it more visual, more physical, as in the performance of "HeartBeat" with Mikhail Baryshnikov.
