My Game Company is pleased to announce the release of Dirk Dashing: Secret Agent! v1.2 for Windows! This release includes a significant update to the game engine to support more modern versions of Windows. Changes include:
- Replaced Dirk's jump sound so it isn't so annoying to some players
- Added support for Windows Vista and Windows 7
- Fixed issues some players had when switching between fullscreen and windowed mode
- Upgraded to SDL 1.2.14 and SDL_mixer 1.2.1, to fix miscellaneous bugs
All of the updates are part of the trial version, which contains the game executable. You can download it from here:
http://www.mygamecompany.com/Products/DirkDashing/windows_download.htm
You should be able to install the new trial version over top of the old one.
Note: on Windows XP, Vista, and 7, the location where the game looks for the game settings, high scores, saved games, etc is now different. So when you first run the game after you install the update, it will not find your existing data.
To preserve your data, you will need to copy it to the new location:
1. Go to the Dirk Dashing install directory (the default is C:\Program Files\Dirk Dashing).
2. Select the following files and copy them to the clipboard:
config.dat
save_index.txt
save*.dat
scores.dat
3. Go to the new directory, depending on your operating system:
On XP: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\MyGameCompany\dirkdashing
On Vista/7: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\MyGameCompany\dirkdashing
Note: if you don't see the Application Data directory on XP or the AppData directory on Vista/7, go to Tools->Folder Options, click on the View tab, and click the "Show hidden files and folders" button. Then click OK.
Note: if the MyGameCompany and dirkdashing directories don't exist, you must create them.
4. Paste the files.
