Behind the Scenes at Illogika...

David Fugère-Lamarre, Co-founder of illogika.com, was kind enough to give me a glimpse into the life of an aspiring indie game developer...

For us, the main challenge we had to face was to finance the whole development and marketing of our first game out of our own pocket, working at best part time but often only nights and weekends. The second biggest challenge is to work in different locations often at different times, it's always harder than working together. Our immediate goal is to be able to make a living out of this in order to reach our main goal which is to have the artistic and design freedom we need to bring something new and fresh to games. We are inspired by what other indies do, like the 2D Boy guys, Jonathan Blow and our former A2M colleague Phil Fish (Polytron). We also try a lot of different games, old and new, small and big (the hard research part of R&D :) ) to find some inspiration and the idea for Steam Wars came by mixing Tank Wars with Mario Galaxy. Finally but perhaps most importantly, we love to have conversations with the players, they have great ideas and we can really tailor the game to what they want by updating it according to their comments.
